Dr. Patrick McCarthy is a renowned heart surgeon and a professor of surgery and biomedical engineering at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He is also the executive director of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and the vice president of the Northwestern Medical Group at Northwestern Medicine.

He has performed thousands of heart valve surgeries and invented a device called the D-EtLogix Ring, which is used to repair the mitral valve. He has also co-founded a company called Cardiac Valve Innovations, which aims to improve heart valve repair rings.

During my tenure at the Cleveland Clinic, I served as the surgical director of Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Cardiac Assist. After spending 14 years at the Cleveland Clinic, I returned to my hometown of Chicago in 2004 and joined Northwestern Medicine.
