Austin Duffy is a consultant medical oncologist at The Mater Hospital and associate Professor of Translational Oncology at UCD. In 2023 he established and became Director of Research for START Dublin, Ireland’s first dedicated site for phase 1 clinical trials in oncology, based at The Mater hospital. He is also the critically-acclaimed author of four novels, Cross (Granta Books, 2024), The Night Interns (Granta Books, 2022), Ten Days (Granta Books, 2021), and This Living and Immortal Thing ( Granta Books, 2016 )which was shortlisted for the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year, Runner-Up for the McKitterick Prize and was highly commended for the BMA Medical Books Awards. He grew up in Ireland, studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin and lives in Howth with his wife and two children.
