Dómhnal Slattery

Dómhnal Slattery (56) is the CEO and Chairman of Clahane Capital. He is one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing pioneers and the founding CEO of Avolon. Established in 2010, in what was one of the largest ever globally private equity funded start-ups, today Avolon is a global leader in aircraft leasing with a balance sheet approaching $30bn.

In January 2022, Dómhnal was appointed Chairman of Vertical Aerospace, a company that is revolutionising urban air mobility and electrifying air travel through the certification of zero-emissions aircraft. Vertical Aerospace is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In July 2022, Dómhnal announced that he was stepping down as chief executive of Avolon to pursue a range of other interests in a non-executive capacity. In September 2022 Dómhnal established Clahane Capital and it is through this platform he is now dedicating his time and energy to reaching a net-zero world by working with investors, founders and strategic stakeholders to identify and back companies that can bring solutions to combat the world’s greatest climate-driven challenges.

In November 2022, Dómhnal was appointed as special adviser to Dubai-based agritech business Pure Harvest Smart Farms where he was also an early investor. In April 2023, Dómhnal joined the Advisory Board of SpinLaunch in April 2023 following his investment in its successful B round. SpinLaunch was named by TIME magazine as “One of the 100 Most Influential Companies in 2022”

The businesses established and built by Dómhnal Slattery, have, for more than 30 years, raised and deployed over US$75 billion of debt and equity capital to finance aircraft for airlines and aircraft investors around the world. A central tenet of each of the three businesses has been a focus on risk assessment and oversight. This approach is most evident in the proprietary risk-management procedures in place at Avolon and which form the basis for many research-led papers which Avolon has produced since its inception. These papers include yearly industry outlooks; analysis and assessment of risks relating to: the supply/demand balance within the aviation industry; the impact of shortening-life spans and early retirement of commercial aircraft; the switch to new technology aircraft and the impact on asset values; global sleet forecasts; and, the outlook for, and growth potential of, the Chinese and Indian aviation markets.
